The Opera House

Picture
In the late 1890's and early 1900's, Northport had an 'Opera House', a combination of businesses on the ground floor and a large hall upstairs,
there was also a lumber yard in the rear.

   The dance at the opera house New Years night, given by the Volunteer Fire Department, was a pronounced success.  Something like seventy-five couples danced to music furnished by Graham's Rossland Quintette Orchestra and nothing but praise for the for the musicians and committee of arrangements is heard on all sides. Dancing began at 8:30 in the evening and continued until 5 a. m.

MISS PEARL HUGUNIN'S                        MUSICALE
    The musicale given by Miss Pearl Hugunin and her class at the Opera House Last Friday was largely attended and was an immense success, showing Miss Hugunin's adaptability as a teacher of music.  The opening was a piano solo by Miss Hugunin, which was greatly applauded.  Miss Jennie Working delivered a recitation and piano solo in a charming manner; Lera Newdell, in a piano solo was equally pleasing;

Jenevieve Hatfield and Jennie Working did excellent in an instrumental duet; Liz Nelson was so loudly encored in her vocal solo that she had to repeat, and her young sister, Minnie Nelson took the house by storm with her recitation.  She is only about 12 years old and shows remarkable talent.  Prof.  Charlier rendered selections from Faust and Il Travatore in a skillful manner on the violin  . . .
