October 2020
In August 2020, Engineer Company #176, a vertical construction company, deployed to Northport for two weeks and replaced the roof of the Welcome Center. They first had to remove four layers of roofing; the original cedar shakes, two layers of asphalt shingles and metal roofing. They then installed a composite material to replicate the original shake roof. The Company will return in July to finish the exterior renovation and begin renovations and restorations on the interior.

Northport Historical Society celebrates purchase of the former Gallo Home
Let the restoration begin! Announcing phase II of the Northport Welcome Center, Museum and Artisan Gallery.
Northport, WA October 24, 2017: As of September 26, 2017 the Northport Historical Society (NHS) is the proud owner of a vintage house on Northport’s Center Street formerly known as the Gallo House. The seven-member leadership team for the project energized the fundraising efforts to raise the $41,500 needed to complete phase I of this project. It is with great pride this small community can boast of its generous spirit. Donations by the leadership team itself, local area past and present residents, community organizations and businesses trickled in up to the closing deadline. Phase II of the project will now raise the funds to begin the restoration of the home. The estimated cost for phase II is $200,000.
Mailings to all alumni and area businesses will go out mid-November to solicit donations of money, materials, and both skilled and unskilled labor. The project team is currently looking for a consulting ‘pro bono’ General Contractor to guide them through a strategic plan for the remodel/restoration process. Leadership team members are busy preparing grant applications and planning indoor projects on the Center for the winter. A first priority will be passing an electrical inspection and securing a heat source!
Many sincere thanks to all those who have made this project a reality for the Northport Historical Society. The workload ahead is still immense, but the success of phase I has encouraged us all to persevere in the society’s mission to preserve history and make it accessible for future generations.
